4 Tips to Connect Your Mind to the Correct Muscles

When you workout, are you just going through the motions or are you connecting your mind to the correct muscles?

Here are some tips to go "back to the basics", where you can truly be present and intentionally focus on feeling the correct muscles working!

1. Warm up. For a muscle to be able to properly engage, it needs to be ready for movement!

2. Slow down. By decreasing your pace (or tempo), your brain can focus on if the correct muscles are being engaged. Additionally, it gives you time to check your posture, neck alignment and breathing pattern

3. Decrease weight. Until you master your form and ability to focus, the amount of weight should be minimal. Gradually increase your weight, ensuring to maintain your mind-to-muscle focus throughout the entire movement!

4. Nix compound movements. When you combine 2 movements (like a lunge and bicep curl), it take a lot of brain power to ensure you're doing both correctly. Focus on one exercise at a time until you are confident in your "mind to muscles" connection!
